In a morning filled with reverence and gratitude, the community gathered on March 19, 2024, to celebrate the solemnity of the Feast of St. Joseph, the spouse of Mary and foster father of Jesus. As the morning prayer assembly commenced, hearts were uplifted in reflection upon the life and virtues of this revered saint, whose silent but significant role in the Holy Family continues to inspire generations. The gathering began with a reading from the Gospel according to St. Matthew (1:16, 18-21, 24), which recounts the account of the angel appearing to Joseph in a dream, affirming the divine nature of Mary’s conception and instructing him to take her as his wife. This passage encapsulates Joseph’s unwavering faith, obedience, and love—a testament to his pivotal role in the fulfillment of God’s plan. Throughout the assembly, various representations of St. Joseph were highlighted, portraying him as a beloved father, tender and loving, obedient, accepting, creatively courageous, working, and as a father in the shadows.
As the assembly drew to a close, hearts were lifted in prayer, echoing the sentiments expressed by Pope Francis in his invocation to St. Joseph: “Guardian of the Redeemer, spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary, to you God entrusted his only Son; in you, Mary placed her trust; with you, Christ became man. Blessed Joseph, to us, too, show yourself a father and guide us in the path of life. Obtain for us grace, mercy, and courage, and defend us from every evil. Amen.” In commemorating the Feast of St. Joseph, may we draw inspiration from his virtues of faith, love, and selflessness, and strive to emulate his example in our own lives, enriching our journey of faith and service to others.
